So you like rum do you? Well you’ve come to the right place. Fidel Rum Bar is a rum lover's paradise.
Run by a couple of guys called Ricky and Liam, Fidel Rum Bar boasts an impressive selection of rum from around the globe: you’ve got Cloven Hoof from Trinidad, Doorly’s XO from Barbados, Ron Zacapa 23 from Guatemala, and even Lugger Rum straight out of Devon. And if what’s on their menu isn’t enough, there’s plenty of more choice just behind the bar that most of us have never heard of - so make sure you ask the team if something a little different catches your eye. Each of their rums can be crafted into a cocktail right in front of your eyes by their experienced team of bartenders; expect sweet pina coladas, bold hurricanes and sophisticated daiquiris, alongside some experimental servings from the Fidel Rum bar gang.
Of course, whilst rum plays a huge part of this establishment, you’ll find other drinks here too. The Cremorne Sloe Gin with a splash of tonic is a must try for gin fans, and their stock of whisky is also on point.
With a name like Fidel, you won’t be surprised to hear that the space is inspired by the icongraphy of Fidel Castro. A red and gold star swings triumphantly on the sign outside the entrance, and every menu has the profile of Castro lighting a cigar on the front of it. Head to the cosy lounge area upstairs and you’ll even be greeted by large framed posters of the man himself on the front of TIME magazine. It’s a cool snapshot of an incredible piece of history, drawing a connection between Cuba’s enthusiasm for rum and our contemporary enjoyment of cocktails inspired by Latin American flavours.
